Shri.R.Jayprakash was born on 28th January 1965 at Palakkad, Kerala in a Gandhian family. His grandfather Dr.K.Sankaran Nair was a freedom fighter and also a nature cure physician. His father Shri.Govindan Nair was well known Khadigram worker in Kerala, and was instrumental in bringing up Sewagram in Kerala

Com.JP, as affectionately called by every one in NFIFWI and also in LIC, did his schooling at St.Thomas Academy, Goregoan, Mumbai and further junior college at Bhavans College, Andheri, Mumbai. He completed his graduation in Science from University College, Trivandrum. He also graduated in Law from Kerala Law Academy under Kerala University. He did his M.A in Public Administration from Shree Venkateswara University Tirupathi. He also holds a Diploma in Journalism from Press Club, Trivandrum. He has also secured a MBA from IGNOU with specialisation in Marketing. He has represented his college in cricket, hockey, table tennis, football and in various academic activities also. He had been to Brazil as Rotarian in 1996

Com.R.Jayprakash joined LIC of India as Development Officer in the year 1988 and was posted at Trivandrum. His federation activities started immediately after his confirmation, first as a Branch Secretary and then in 1991 he became the Divisional Joint Secretary. He was elected as Divisional General Secretary in 1992. In the South Zone council held at Trivandrum in October 1995, he was elected as the Zonal Secretary of South Zone. He held the post of Zonal Secretary till his co-option as All India President in December 2000 following the vacancy created by the untimely demise of Com.V.V.Theagu the then All India President. During the Patna Federal council in 2002, he was unanimously elected as All India President and again re-elected as All India President at Pune and Puri Federal Councils in 2004 and 2006 respectively. On 18th March 2007 in the Central Secretariat meeting held at Mumbai, he was co-opted as Secretary General. In the 23rd Federal Council meet held at Chandigarh in Jan 2008, he was elected as Secretary General. He again got re-elected as Secretary General in the 24th Federal Council meet held at Thiruvananthapuram in Feb 2010. In the 25th Federal Council meet held at Agra in Jan 2012 he was re-elected for the third consecutive term.
